How to make a Facebook Profile Backup
Keeping track of your company’s Facebook records.
While the adoption of social networks as marketing tools by companies was initially slow, it has accelerated to the point where few companies are without at least one social profile.
The rise of social networking for business has brought with it many varied challenges. Not least among the challenges is the need to keep company records. Many companies still do not realise that much of the content on social networks like Facebook and Twitter does constitute Records.
As with company emails, social networking is all about communication. This communication comes in the form of messaging, comments, and a variety of posts that may include photos and video. Not to mention companies now have access to vast quantities of personal information of the people they have interacted with.
With the above in mind, you must realise that social network data is important and needs to be handled with care. The PoPI Act, which will come into effect soon has strict controls on personally identifiable information. Therefore, it is time to start thinking about social networks as being a part of your Records and Information Management Programme.
A key part of any RIM Programme is backups. Did you know you can, in fact, create a Facebook Profile Backup*? Well, you can, and we will take you through the steps you need to follow to create your own Facebook Profile Backup.
Now while the chances are slim that Facebook will ever lose your profile data, downloading it, and storing it yourself does make it easier for you to work with in some ways.
1. The first thing you will need to do is log in to your Facebook account.
2. Then select the drop-down arrow at the top right-hand side of your screen and select the ‘Settings’ option.
3. Next, you need to look underneath of the options for a link that reads, “Download a copy of your Facebook data”
4. Next, you will need to follow the steps given to you by Facebook. Be sure to have your password handy and to check the email you use with Facebook after following the first steps.
5. Be sure to secure the backup file as it contains lots of sensitive data.
